Agree. Zcash's privacy tech makes it the most interesting Bitcoin alternative. Bitcoin is great, but "if it's not private, it's not safe." https://twitter.com/masonic_tweets/status/912551989938212864 …

Wut? Choosing outputs for a ring sig has nothing to do with amateur cryptography, it’s a distribution problem. Also:https://getmonero.org/2017/04/19/an-unofficial-response-to-an-empirical-analysis-of-linkability.html …

Also transaction graph privacy is only 1 aspect of the 4 privacy enhancements Monero focuses on, and is well-known to be the weakest part.

That article/research isn't applicable anymore. Look up the percent of private send on zcash vs Monero. Anonymity set matters, right?

426 Zcash txs in the past month hid sender, receiver & amount. 133k Monero txs did the same. https://explorer.zcha.in/statistics/usage … http://moneroblocks.info/stats/transaction-stats …

That's over 300x the number of private transactions. Implementation matters

Considering that the true identity of the Cryptonote author Nicholas von Saberhagen isn't known, you can't actually call it amateur crypto.

No one will ever know if it was an amateur or a team of professionals. Looking at the thought that went into it, I'd lean toward the latter.

I'd recommend taking another look at XMR. Trustless set-up, private by default, regular protocol upgrade mechanism, works in the wild.
