Queen did OK, getting out to visit survivors while PM hid. But they need stable new family homes, not awkward camping in someone's palace

The monarchy are part of the problem. Their money can wipe out debt & poverty but they won't. Callus cruel & worthy of contempt
-
Like Snowden, I don't understand it. Most the men seem to do a lot. Andrew's 2 look like Cinderella's step- sisters and creep me out.
-
They don't offer anything to UK. Monarchy is archaic & has no place in modern society. Retire them all & take back tax money for the people
-
The way I read it: It looks like the Monarch turned a lot of their fortune over to England and live off a % of the worth.
-
First I've ever heard that. There's no place for them in modern society anymore. They bring nothing to the country.
-
I agree with that. I read it on Wikipedia, for whatever that's worth.
-
I heard combined wealth of well over a billion & we're to pay for refurb. Ridiculous this is allowed. Time to take back what's ours I say.

Good will is missing between public and Government, not public and Royalty. (Re Buckingham Palace, it's largely offices, not empty.)
-
Thanks for clearing that up, it seems most ppl think it's endless bedrooms rather than an HQ

Corbyn was never a fan of it. But even if it stays, it needs to be more modest. Recently refurbished at (our) cost of ~$500,000,000.
-
Put in perspective, that is about 100 times the
#Grenfell rehousing fund, which total s just one Kensington homehttp://metro.co.uk/2016/11/19/thousands-sign-petition-for-royal-family-to-pay-for-buckingham-palace-repairs-themselves-6268174/ … -
But also paid for by the Monarchy's own money given back to them by the government.
-
Given back for what? Why does the government owe them in the first place?
-
Revenue from Crown Estates. It's a complicated business.
-
And when you consider the work the royals do. Embassidors to hundreds of charities and organisations. And all the work abroad with 3rd world
-
That's tourism.
-
That is a fair enough argument against the the side duties being not important. One I mostly agree with.

Quick primer: Monarchy relinquished income from all their lands in return for a regular payment from the nation. UK Turns a profit on deal
-
The monarchy shouldn't have had ownership of those lands in the first place. Divine right of kings is complete and utter nonsense.
-
Legitimate within the prevailing sense of property ownership. Not only predates subsequent notions of ownership but underpins them.
-
I understand this. Basically it is what it is but royalty was a scam devised in collusion with the church to control the masses.
-
No. Divine right replaced might. Rather than perpetually conquering lands we began to create a system that saved continuous bloodshed
-
You have a point concerning the establishment of rule of law and preventing further civil war. Like everything in life, it's complicated.
-
Very. And we do ourselves an enormous favour when we just go "Ok, this kinda works - let's not go back to everything being up for grabs"
-
Yeah much like the Good Friday agreement. When something ain't broke, don't fix it. Very wise words.
