Likely would still have needed Microsoft to produce an XP patch after support ended. Many NHS machines still running XP, no patch exists.

Patch exists via "custom" (aka extended, and very $$) support agreements. NHS let licenses expire.

True but to absolve hacker of primary &ultimate responsibility for crime is absurd. Work to stop them/protect systems but don't ignore crime
