"as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, [Wyden] knew the actual answer had to be classified" -http://observer.com/2016/11/james-clapper-americas-top-spymaster-steps-down-heres-what-happens-next/ …
-
He didn't have to lie. He could have simply said that it was classified. It was no setup.
-
Answering "classified" would have had the same effect as a "yes", and why did Wyden ask, when he knew about the program?
-
Wyden asked, perhaps because he felt the American people had a right to know. As was (and is) his duty as Senator.
-
I can imagine that, but this was a rather desparate way to do so, then rather leak something to the press...
-
Senators get certain immunities for what they say on the Senate floor. It's better for him to go on the record.
-
I think if Wyden chose that path, it would be sort of a last act. Udall did, after losing his seat.
-
I missed that of Udall, did he reveal some things?

In coverage of of the resignation announcement, not one major news outlet even mentioned his lies under oath.

@netbacker@dnvolz@RonWyden Of course Clapper lied to the people it's in the job description. -
It used to be called treason. Now it's an SOP.
