Update: the new i9 MacBook Pro doesn’t throttle under even the most stressful benchmarks. It gets mighty close… but doesn’t ever dip under base clock. Good job, Apple!pic.twitter.com/UkVVEM7bhn

Additional info: the “new” keyboard is even quieter than 2018 models with membrane, but has a very short and mushy throw. Feels worse. Also, I don’t know if it’s just my unit, but the Force Touch Trackpad feels and sounds terrible. More sibilant and less strong than my 2018 MBP.https://twitter.com/SnazzyQ/status/1131645760833970177 …

Disagree. It depends on your workload. There are many fields that can take advantage of this new hardware.

Doesn't dip under base clock ≠ Doesn't throttle.

That’s actually exactly what thermal throttling means. Decreased boost clocks are normal—especially on multithreaded workloads. When used correctly, “throttling” means the chip exceeds safe operating temps and needs to reduce its core clock speed below its rated base clock.

I still don't understand the point of running powerful chips at base clock tho, why not just just have a slightly less powerful chip, maybe with less cores and let it boost up? Seems like a waste of resources except for the CPU cache maybe.

More heat, increased power usage, and variant boost speeds depending on individual chip binning and CPU load.

Does your MBP has the 2.4 Ghz? The one in the video was the 2.3 Ghz and its temps are in the high 80’s 😍
