Awkward to receive CVs for job applications featuring the candidates' picture. I know it's a common practice in other parts of the world but it looks a bit strange when you do this while applying for a job in the US or in Canada :-)

Why do even working class xenophobes support rich, privately schooled, well-travelled populists like Nigel Farage, Donald Trump and Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, and even see them as "one of us"? Is it that they too want unearned privilege, and see these men as its best defenders?

Disenfranchised like 60% of Brits in Europe. NO VOTE ANYWHERE from today. Functioning democracy anyone? Does this count as 'nothing will change'? Pfff!

A strange, sad day. Part of my family's identity as European is washed away by the first flow of a tsunami that follows a political earthquake. At the same time, I recognize the absurdity of this system of birthrights. We must do better, humans. We must do better for humans.

The worrying thing about this is that most Republican voters now trust no or almost no reputable news sources. That's what conspiracy theorists are like.

Agenda-setting 101: the media generally do not determine what people think, but certainly influence what they think about.

Great stuff. I completely agree that Rawls's deepest insights were in his search for a maximally ecumenical justification of liberalism. And that's a topic that deserves a lot more publically engaged philosophy. 👏

Social media is GREAT for using inaccurate headlines to provoke knee-jerk critical reactions. Never has it been truer that a lie is spread half way around the world before the truth has got its boots on.

It's 10 days until we leave and since no-one else is explaining what this means to Brits in EU, we are launching a number of articles about citizens' rights. Read the 1st one here:

1/ Seems to be confusion about what happens after January 31 between the UK and EU. But the UK press is focusing on other issues. So here's a thread about the transition period, partly in the style of the UK press to keep your attention. Look at this ROYAL about to FIGHT ⬇️

No one has voted to abolish the Erasmus scheme yet. We still have the opportunity to state the case for the advantages of this wonderful program. Your personal experience is a powerful testimony to the importance of international collaboration. We want to keep .

A bureaucrat says what bureaucrats and politicians want from academics. In a nutshell: Timely, simple, palatable answers. Should philosophers deliver, avoid writing for policy-makers, or urge them to want something else?

When I hear political propaganda about what 'we' believe, decide, or will do, I always ask: Who are 'we', and should I prefer that those people make the choice for me, rather than some other 'we'?
