This really helped me figure out how to integrate these ideas with my groups. Making an evil to overcome without crossing a line is a delicate balance. We don't always know when our players faced monsters IRL and this lovely game stops being an escape.

As a dungeon master, my favorite moments during session come when I sit idle as the players’ debate the choices open to their characters.

Other things I've found useful to do in text on Discord (although this is for play-by-post, so everything's text and it's more important to use the medium fully): fast maps, which show distance Stats tracking "HUD" (emoji are useful here) progress of a skill contest text effects

A simple "fast map" showing distance from a tree in a race (the tree turned out to be a scythe tree which attacked the party, but that's another story)
The "HUD", a quick summary of a character's AC, HP, and remaining spell slots by level (from information stored in Avrae, in this example, but they needn't be if you don't use it). And a wrestling match; handled as contested grapple checks, where you had to win by two clear moves, so I made a little "meter" showing what the position was. Works well for any back-and-forth zero-sum thing where a gain for me is a loss for you; arm wrestling, tugs-o-war, and the like.
a textual description of falling into a ravine, with text effects: the words "falling", "crash", "bump" and so on spread across the page visually to demonstrate a fall
a huge BOOM expressed as a figlet font in Discord (this and the other text effect example is useful for play-by-post gaming, less so where you're doing voice conversations and using Discord text simply to track stats and the like)

I love this idea and I wonder what other D&D sorts of things we can handle in text so we can paste it into Discord? Initiative; a text-based battle map; what else?

Using 's notion template has streamlined my book keeping from Google Docs and a notebook. It's an excellent tool.
