People who deploy the term “virtue signalling” are implying that they themselves are so virtuous they don՚t need to signal it, or that they have some capability to distinguish true virtue from the merely signified.

To say that people are fancy chimps is extremely not-controversial while used to sound edgy. My entire extremely favorable view of virtue signaling as a functionally significant societal practice fits in a fancy ape worldview. There is very little that being a fancy ape defuses.
