Today, I’m announcing the first members of my national security and foreign policy team. They will rally the world to take on our challenges like no other—challenges that no one nation can face alone. It’s time to restore American leadership. I trust this group to do just that.

Rumor has it that intends to appoint Anthony Blinken as Sec of State. If true, great news. You might remember him as the only NSC guy who had a fallout with Obama over not enforcing Red Lines and striking Assad. Blinken said: "Superpowers don't bluff."

When discussing Merz it's also worth remembering that Merkel's CDU shifted to the centre. That's part of Merz' appeal within the party, where a lot of people think Merkel went too far. Merz is not a Trumpian revolutionary, he's an ordinary German conservative

With the excellent nominations on the horizon, the EU (and France) will have competent and decent interlocutors in the US - very rare under Trump. This doesn't mean that there will be an agreement on everything, but transatlantic ties can be rebuilt because values will be shared.

If reports are true and is selecting Tony Blinken as SecState, Michele Flournoy as SecDef, and Jake Sullivan as National Security Advisor, then he will have a fantastic team - all are highly qualified, work well across the aisle, and are just plain good people.

Now that the PRC has become a competitor for military primacy US procurement must become competitive: $100 million for a 75-Marine landing craft is not competitive; $13 billion+or a $7B aircraft carrier with $5B of very marginal add-ons is not competitive. Needed: new platforms
