If it was *just* about having a child to raise and love, infertile couples, gay men, transwomen, etc would just adopt. Those who refuse to adopt either a) see adopted children as unloveable, or b) want a customized accessory.

"But I want a child that's made from me and looks like me!" well then you don't want to love a child, you want to love yourself.

I don't do any of the things you listed but am still a massive Narcissist. Looks like I need to up my game.

is it reasonable to agree re: rental but not re: treatments? experiencing pregnancy oneself has to be meaningful enough that it's not narcissistic to want deeply

I am not talking about someone who simply needs IVF or whatnot. I actually used to know a couple who spent an upwards of $50,000 on about a dozen treatments over the course of 10 years. There is a point where it becomes obscene.

& you wouldn't believe the costs of some foreign adoptions. Everyone is chasing the "perfect" healthy baby with no FAS or in utero drug exposure - it creates a demand so of course drives fees up

Narcissism is a bit of a hyperbole. We looked into adoption. Private adoption is from 30k-100k. We started the process for through the state and were put off by guidelines and horror stories. We have 3 of our own btw. Happy, healthy, smart as hell. Best thing I’ve done in my life
