oooo what about a "semi-mute" functionality in @SlackHQ where the channel doesn't light up all chat events but only ones deemed relatively novel
(hey i just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my feature can you ML it, maybe?)

Interesting! Can you tell us a little more about what you would like to see come through with such a function?

Sure
. there are a few use cases here -- sometimes people thread conversations, other times there's an ongoing conversation at the top-level. in the latter scenario, I'd like to know "Ah, there's new activity in this channel" but not every time someone responds with "ah"1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 0 polubionych -

another use case -- I'm thinking of Gmail's auto-star of things I might actually care about. so, for a high traffic channel, I'd only get pinged when something ~*~relevant to me~*~ happens. alt, something that generates high engagement so ~*~maybe I should take a look~*~

to be clear, for all these I mean when the channel name lights up. it's different from a notification or DM etc etc.
