You can change your name color by using /color command followed by your @username and the color hex color code you'd like! 
Hi Kevin, to do this, click on your workspace name in the top left corner in the desktop app, and then head to Preferences > Messages & Media and select Compact as your theme.

Thank you, any advice on how we can use your features to further distinguish our supervisors and managers in chat without having to instruct an entire workforce to switch to compact mode. (Like herding cats over here, lol)

That's a great question. There isn't a built-in feature specifically for that, but neat idea. Before the unfortunate smashing, did y'all try a switch to the "Compact theme" in Preferences > Messages & media? This is the only theme where you'd see the colors show up.
