Hey James! We're afraid there's no way to get rid of the slash commands menu entirely, but you can dismiss that pop up if you hit the space bar when it appears. We're glad to raise your request as a feature idea here.

The worst part of this is that it pops OVER (with no transparency or sizing options) the current reading pane which obscures what folks are reading.
