Why does @SlackHQ bother to save my *empty* and abandoned messages to people as “drafts”?
Oh sorry am I not yet allowed to return to my usual UX grumbling? Back off, election nerds!
If you start a message from the All DMs/compose view (the pencil icon at the top of your sidebar), it will create a blank draft. If you open your direct messages via search (the search bar at the top of Slack or Cmd/Ctrl + K), then it shouldn't!

Thanks. But why bother to save an empty draft? For example, if I start typing a DM to someone, then change my mind and backspace over it. The message is now empty (no message!) but it will haunt my drafts until I click the trash icon.

We thought it might be helpful to display conversations that were started but never typed in, but we've been tracking feedback on it and are potentially looking at revisiting the behaviour. Let us know if you have any context you'd like us to share with our team!
