Showing all the profile pics under Direct Messages is the main thing. Looks way too busy, and it’s harder to see at a glance who is online or not.

It truly is a big step in the wrong direction.. we care about functionality more than design. Much harder to tell online status. Please add an option for us to choose between avatar and status icons.
