Dear @SlackHQ, the new direct messages sidebar with avatars now overtaking the simple status adds visual complexity without adding any marginal value. Why do you keep tweaking things? At least let us opt out of this constant, non-stop iteration. The pace of change is too high!
We're sorry for the inconvenience, Adam! We changed the sidebar to make it more intuitive and better for visual users. We appreciate everyone's thoughts on this, and will be looking to make improvements based on the feedback we receive.

I appreciate that but it’d be great to understand the reason behind this. I am a visual person, and I find it more cluttered. Avatars don’t help much at that size, and now the status is obscured.

I only question this (and other changes),
@SlackHQ, because I feel part of the Slack family, having been a heavy user now since 2013. I’ve been along for the whole ride, and I just wonder if the most recent changes actually add value to the product. I’m not so sure they do.
