Why you do this, @SlackHQ, this profile pics showing for one's DM list? The entire left edge of my work screen is hurting my eyes. So many colours compressed into a small space and pulling my gaze there constantly - when all I want to do is read my threads without distraction! 
We did that to make Slack feel more intuitive and better enable users to find their teammates and key activity — sorry it actually made things harder for you! We're collecting feedback on the new sidebar and will be looking to make improvements in the near future accordingly.
