The business case summary scores an above-grade SkyTrain higher than Light Rail Transit on financials and deliverability. We now know more than ever that this is the right project type for one of the busiest transport corridors SoF.

The business case summary not only reaffirms a positive benefits-cost result, but shows that the full 17km extension to Langley City will reach areas in the region facing the highest household transportation costs. Let's get it done!

We do want to correct the earlier tweet to note that the full will extend 17 kilometres, not 25 kilometres, from King George Station to Langley.

  8. Edmonton's similar LRT proposal is also prompting concerns from their City Council due to rising costs. The 14km street-level LRT project is currently expected to cost $2.7 billion.

  9. The cancellation is a sign that street-level LRTs and are too expensive to be practical for our cities, and were never as cheap as LRT proponents have suggested. New findings suggest Hamilton's LRT was to cost $2.85 billion for 14 km.

  17. (6/6) CEO Kevin Desmond said this: "If we can get full funding and do a continuous project ... you can get to Langley in the same period of time by 2025." Let's do it! Let's build a full 16km , get to Langley by 2025, and cut down congestion on the PMB.

  18. (5/6) The will add up to 8 new stations that cut down long bus commutes on Surrey-Langley corridor and bring fast, convenient service close to where people are. We just need the funding to build the full 16km. The case is clear. We need govts to take action.

  19. (4/6) More than 100,000 commuters from and Langley go NoF for work or school every day. 60% of these trips are made by private automobile. We can reduce congestion by converting these driving trips to transit trips. The way to do that is by expanding rapid transit.

  20. (3/6) Meanwhile, and Langley are growing faster than ever. It's important to remember that SoF cities have also seen record growth in transit ridership. The #555 (a bus route which crosses the PMB) is at capacity during AM+PM peak periods. It's not enough. We need more.
