alphabetical order. Affect is what could happen if the action takes place. Effect is what happened after the action occurred.
Your answer had an affect on me. (Is affect the action?) or Your answer had an effect on me. (Is effect the result of the answer?)

I think my confusion is that both examples seem to be identical where the person is feeling the results (action I think).
