The timer on the christmas lights is 6h/8h on and 18h off, but it gets dark now at 4pm and sunrise is maybe 9.30am. I wish the lights could be on for 16h and off for 8h.
Some timers have added the "dawn-dusk" option that might solve a situation when there is less sunlight. Might help in your location?

Wish these had that, a sensor like our regular outdoor light has. But these were like really cheap lights with batteries.
