I dont really feel much emotion behind that, namely because Vol'jin did pretty much nothing and is a fairly blank character. Plus he died unceremoniously after getting stabbed in the back and dying from fel poison.
I don't feel much emotion for Varian. I mean his death was cool but I didn't feel much sadness for it either. Vol'jin's gave me more sadness than anything from his farewells. Guess its a Horde and Alliance thing. Watching Vol'jin climb to the top only to die was disheartening.

Varian was an active leader in the Alliance since Wrath, participating in every major event as a leader & sacrifices himself so that his forces could get away. It's not a HvA thing at all. If it was Thrall was Varian, ensuring the survival of the Horde, it would be the same.
