As I've learned recently with JoJo they did that to make the antagonists in JoJo easier to dislike and for you to hate. ...Is that what Disney did here?

i think they just going for a villain origin story. dont think she's meant to be loved by the end of it. she did go a bit mad in the end of the toon movie but idk if they'll be basing her on that version heh

I even remember in the live action sequel to the 101 Dalmations movie, they tried painting her as some redeemed animal rights icon named Ella and how that went horrible. The origin still will probably be on par with horridness and that's what people prefer.
