Lack of Horde and Alliance... It's beautiful. Perfection.

Not for everyone. And specifically not for me either. Definitely should be a middle ground so that both sides get what they want rather than just the one. As stated they did it well in previous expansions like MoP and WotLK where they were around just not in your face.

MoP was literally the Horde destroying an Alliance city and then the Alliance and Horde dissidents having to violently oust the rightful Horde leadership. That's pretty 'in your face.'

The 'we're at war' and then 'we're at peace to fight the big bag' and 'we're back at war now' is straining the suspension of disbelief. Khadgar says it himself: "But I will not take up arms against heroes on either side. Not after all we've been through." I want say that too.

I'm not saying eliminate the factions, but the faction conflict as a major story beat needs to end. Shadowlands has shown us that there's a big multiverse out there of places for us to explore and conflicts to solve. We don't need it anymore.

It heavily depends on how well the story can be told. And I am again using Mists again as an example as it was handled well beat for beat in its story. I think the biggest misunderstanding in all of this is people assume "Horde and Alliance story" as the two just fighting.

The destruction of Theramore, the purging of Dalaran, the Siege of Orgrimaar. Those are Mists story beats. What made Mists awesome was the exploration of a new land. A land we would ultimately destroy with our Horde/Alliance conflict.

Mists of Pandaria had several story beats outside of the destruction of Theramore, Purging of Dalaran, and the Siege of Orgrimmar. What made Mists of Pandaria awesome were all the themes it explored. Not just the exploration and not just the faction conflict. Everything.

MoP was the Faction storyline done right. At the start it's what started the conflict, of course. But the majority of the start was exploring the land and understand it.

Afterwards in Landfall the war comes to the land completely. This is where Alliance vs Horde was the primary focus the most. The return of the Thunder King is where the main focus was the Thunder King's return with mostly minor H vs A beats.

Escalation was the rebellion that Vol'jin would lead. Leading to the Alliance and Horde agreeing to join forces to take out Garrosh. Ending and concluding with defeating Garrosh in the Siege of Orgrimmar. Really when you look at it MoP only had 2 patches of H vs A.
