I don’t know if WoD counts, Gul’dan and the Shadow Council weren’t exactly twiddling their thumbs during the expansion. It may have been wrapped up just to push Legion, but let’s be honest...Gul’dan wasn’t going to let anyone get away with anything without his say so.
Well, Grommash was the "confirmed" final boss of Warlords of Draenor when they announced it. But they changed their minds about it as the expansion went on.

Mmm, kay, fair point. I personally would still say that Gul’dan taking over, the final boss being Archimonde, wasn’t so bad though. It was Blizzard’s rush to, as I said, wrap it up so they could do Legion instead that really drove it into the ground.

Though, to be fair, I may also be biased by the fact that I REALLY love Grom. As a kid playing the orc prologue of WC3 over and over again, and then the orc campaign once I was good enough to reach it, I have a very soft spot for him and appreciated him not being the final boss.
