We’re currently forming the “Nathanos is heading to the Shadowlands to be reunited with Sylvanas” and “Nathanos is heading to the Shadowlands to get dumped by Sylvanas” parties, and honestly I dunno which one I think is correct.

Considering what she does in Shadow's Rising I am leaning more on the fact that she's going to be done with Nathanos. Nathanos failed too many times and her association with failure is now inlined with her. That scar on her eye is a reminder of that after all.
Nathanos puts too much faith that going to the Maw to be with Sylvanas will be better for him. Heck, that is what he thought of a while ago in his own monologue to himself. I just think it's more interesting if he finds out that the Maw isn't going to be welcoming after all.
