Humans in WoW are descended from viking space robots cursed by Lovecraftian eldritch fiends, yet somehow you demand an answer for why some of them are darker skinned.
I don't remember there ever being this big of an outcry when Orcs were confirmed to have brown skin before they drank the demon blood. But people are really drawing the line at Gnomes, Dwarves, Humans and Elves. Like... I don't get it.

Not taking sides here, but to ask a question that might lead to a possible answer; wasn't the brown to green issue established lore from the very beginning? (one thing I believe for certain: the human mods are good and long overdue.)

I don't believe it was outright stated until TBC and nobody really batted an eye over that as far as I recall. I didn't actually play during TBC too so I could be wrong in there was no negative reaction. But I've never heard of such a thing.

The reasoning here is less what happened and why it happened. With orcs it was, well, that's just blizzard's story whatever. With humans made absolute sense from the beginning. But elves was clearly just about RL diversity sipping in. I have no problem but it is a touchy subject

I mean, it's just racism. What's to get? Of course NO, it makes absolutely no LOGICAL sense, but when has racism ever? Even if racism wasn't harmful, we could condemn it utterly for being just plain wrong and dumb. IRL! Not to mention fantasy video games.

There was still an outrage over brown orcs in TBC but it wasn't nearly as big, mostly people were convinced that Blizzard were losing their copyright over green orcs to Games Workshop and had to make them brown now. It was a very widespread urban legend.
