Im still totally dumbfounded Shadowlands is bringing back Kael'thas & his storyline is about him redeeming himself & fighting against an old enemy from his past & its not Garithos but instead a character he never interacted with, once. All the pieces were there & they wiffed it.

To be fair, Kael'thas hating and hunting down (spoilers for other people beyond this point) K'T makes absolute sense given that it was him that corrupted the Sunwell. My own choices on who it was were Garithos, K'J or Dar'Khan. It being KT isn't disappointing at least.

I disagree. Said character is involved in the downfall of the High Elves, sure, but he didn't do it himself, it was done to him by Arthas. Kael'thas never interacted with him and always, always, ALWAYS attributed that to Arthas. We never once had him go, "Man its X's fault!"

Not even the Blood Elves blame said character, they blame Arthas. Because it was Arthas who slaughtered their Kingdom and it was Arthas whose actions corrupted the Sunwell. The other character was just incidentally involved by nature of how they had to return.

It seems to be that said character is just being used as a proxy for Arthas because Arthas is busy being involved (maybe) in Uther's storyline. It would have been more interesting to see Uther AND Kael'thas react to Arthas, much like how 3 covenants react to X post-90.

I'm sure they are going to react to Arthas at some point in the Afterlife. But K'T being a constant threat and villain it makes sense in the narrative to pin some aggression on K'T especially if he's back in Kael's life.

He was never in Kael's life to begin with, that's the problem. I'm all in on said character being built up as seemingly the big bad of 9.1. I love that and its satisfying and cool. Kael'thas' reaction to him seems really shallow and not fulfilling. (cont)

It was always described as an "enemy from Kael'thas' past" that he was chasing. But that character was never an enemy from Kael'thas' past. The two never even crossed paths. They never spoke nor fought. It's like saying the Mana Bomb was an enemy from Jaina's past for Theramore.

It definitely could've been worded better. But I do get why they chose K'T as the enemy Kael is bent on removing. What would've been better is if Dar'Khan was working with K'T & you could've had the best of both worlds. An enemy of Kael's past + K'T being built up as a big bad.

Dar'khan would have also worked perfectly. Especially since there's another Lich working directly for X that you confront and kill WITH Kael'thas during a covenant storyline. Some random nobody Lich. And Dar'khan literally was considered a Lich at the time he died per the game.
