It seems to be that said character is just being used as a proxy for Arthas because Arthas is busy being involved (maybe) in Uther's storyline. It would have been more interesting to see Uther AND Kael'thas react to Arthas, much like how 3 covenants react to X post-90.
I'm sure they are going to react to Arthas at some point in the Afterlife. But K'T being a constant threat and villain it makes sense in the narrative to pin some aggression on K'T especially if he's back in Kael's life.
He was never in Kael's life to begin with, that's the problem. I'm all in on said character being built up as seemingly the big bad of 9.1. I love that and its satisfying and cool. Kael'thas' reaction to him seems really shallow and not fulfilling. (cont)
It was always described as an "enemy from Kael'thas' past" that he was chasing. But that character was never an enemy from Kael'thas' past. The two never even crossed paths. They never spoke nor fought. It's like saying the Mana Bomb was an enemy from Jaina's past for Theramore.
