The thing that kills me about the npc model argument is that the player model clearly has better textures and more rigging in the face
I think the main thing that the Nightborne NPC model has going for it is the armor and skeleton as it's not the typical night elf rig that the Nightborne has. There are better faces too but as you said the NPC's model just wouldn't work with the player one.
