As much as I dislike Sylvanas as Warchief I cannot deny she still would've been the perfect leader against the Burning Legion. Plus she did ensure the Horde didn't die on the Broken Shore at least and got Vol'jin and mostly everyone out of there.
Magni in Classic to WotLK was: - Mourning his brother's "death". - His daughter was with the enemy romantically. Then that was followed by being turned into a Crystal VIA the ritual in Ironforge until Legion.

The Humans in the Alliance are the vice versa of the Orcs in the Horde. They're the core focus and the creators of their factions. I know this is a tough pill for most to swallow but that's been the case for both sides for a long time and they're not likely to change that.

But the Horde succeeds in showcasing the different races within it. Horde ARs are easy to write because there's always another Horde race or ideal they can to relate to. Alliance races spend so much time in the background that coming up with ARs is a struggle.pic.twitter.com/E6CtgXjjM0

I don't think those really work as reasons from a meta perspective, because there's always something busy going on for every kingdom. But these things never impede the characters who the writers want to be present. Varian was somehow never to busy to personally show up places.

Basically the Alliance in Classic was in shambles over their missing King or rather the humans. The idea or concept of a High King didn't occur until Mists of Pandaria because the Alliance wanted someone to help unionize them better. This to me, made Varian more interesting.
