It was totally his guilt. Personally, I think his guilt over Voljin also had a hand in it. Thrall wasn't even at the funeral. Voljin was Thrall's wingman for years, and Thrall couldn't even show up to his funeral.
Thrall not showing up to Vol'jin's funeral always bothered me. But if the lore he simply couldn't bear to go to another friend/brother's funeral I could understand that.

I usually assumed that to just immediately ran to the Maelstrom after recovering from the Broken Isles. But even then, Voljin was stabbed by a Felblade and probably not looking so hot. So still kiiiiind of a dick move for Thrall to make.

I'm sure the Earthern Ring would understand if Thrall was a tad late to the meeting on account of his best friend and wingman just died and there was a funeral pyre to attend.
