I know someone did a video some years back going over mak'gora to address this very issue. And the conclusion, as far as indicated by previous mak'gora from the lore, was Thrall didn't cheat. Because the rules for that particular Mak'gora were never clearly established.

Yeah, and Thrall used the elements in literally all the other duels with Garrosh. It's not like Garrosh ever said "no don't" or expected Thrall not to. The whole idea that Thrall cheated only really took off after the Warcraft movie, to be honest.

It was totally his guilt. Personally, I think his guilt over Voljin also had a hand in it. Thrall wasn't even at the funeral. Voljin was Thrall's wingman for years, and Thrall couldn't even show up to his funeral.

I'm 90% certain he's kidding too. But even when people kid about it - it sets an idea in the majority of the community that Thrall cheated. It can get frustrating at times to deal with that aftermath. I still think Taliesin is cool regardless.
