I think that Legion and BfA are enough evidence to support that new and old characters can co-exist. But then again I play World of Warcraft not for my own character, aside for RP purposes, but for the existing characters of Warcraft 3.

Thing is though... the recurring older minor characters aren't really the same characters. They're just old names chosen to fit a new role, and their old personalities don't come intact. This ranges from the new personalities being close to completely off.

I get the feeling that these characters could have been interchanged with some other named NPC, and it wouldn't have changed anything. Heck, besides the first few seconds, is anything in the newest cinematic video distinctly Draka? She easily could have been Garona.

But Garona is alive... that really wouldn't work out at all. I think they chose Draka because she was one of the lesser developed characters that they wanted to focus on. Plus they wanted someone who's existing with a highly established character to interact with later.

Other than being alive, is there really anything keeping it from being Garona? Draka didn't have the most set in stone personality, but what little was known about her is... well, largely absent. A silly point but - apparently she also changed classes from warrior to rogue.

I think that was the whole point of the story to demonstrate that. She even points out how it's weird she was put into a House meant for spies rather than the house meant for warriors. She's essentially now both a warrior and a rogue which is why she's valued in the Shadowlands.

The other point of focusing on Draka and giving her own short is to give her more of a personality. At least with Garona she's had several books, questlines, etc. Draka only has had a few books and was never in the game which is a good reason to give her more of a character.

I mean, I want her to get more development, I thought she deserved more screentime in the Warcraft movie, but this development feels interchangeable. Uther's story could only be told about Uther. Draka's story could be anyone. No mention of her motherhood, or childhood sickness.

They could've focused on anyone but they chose Draka. And I personally don't think that was the wrong decision. It'd be weirder if they focused on somebody with already enough development as it is. Draka needs that focus and spotlight because she's lacking it.

Maybe, but if they don't involve former traits that made her Draka before, is there any point to making this NPC Draka now, as opposed to just inventing a new NPC? Granted, it remains to be seen if the quests do more than the cinematic.

The short was to show that Draka has made a new life for herself in the Afterlife while Uther struggles to. The moment if Thrall ever steps into her life again could change that which is what I am intrigued by. And Thrall, out of all the cast needs guidance atm.
