You know, thinking about what was said in Bastion I think until recently the maw just isn't a place many souls go? I have a theory there might be an equivalent exchange thing going on? Plus the reason we have Revendreth i think avoids the maw???
I'd say it is absolutely rare for most to go to the Maw but the fact that the Shadowlands does have it so if you fail in Revendreth you do go to the Maw. Makes me also wonder what happens if things don't work out for you in your current realm outside of Revendreth.

Very good point and oh yeah that does seem concerning. I guess we have one example in Bastion now tho, but idk what the norm would be for not being a good fit for your afterlife?

I imagine they either send you to Revendreth to get your shit figured out or they try to find a place for you elsewhere. They did say that there are more than these four afterlives in the Shadowlands - these are just the "Main Four" or the larger ones.

Yeah to me the shadowlands is completely amoral, it doesn't really care if you deserve to be punished or did a bad thing, it cares if you can be useful.

This is implied heavily in Bastion, at the very start of questing, that aspirants who do not conform at the Temple of Loyalty are thrown into the Maw, and that the Kyrian believe they deserve it.
