The design philosophies and raiding overall was what a lot of people liked. Also it vastly improved a lot of the talent trees and Introduced arena and a bunch of other things that were staple parts of the game for a while
Storywise the expansion just doesn't hold up as well. Especially with how it does away characters like me when I eat popcorn.

Oh the story telling was a mess back then, but people remember the characters more than the quality of story. That's why nothing I mentioned had to do with story because no one's really arguing that

The story is what's most important to me when it comes to the expansions. It's why WotLK holds up so well a decade later. But TBC and Classic both show their age. It's why Legion and books try their best to fix those expansions on the "why this" and "why that", etc.
