There's a lot of talk about Arthas getting a redemption arc with the recent cutscene. For obvious and spoiler reasons. I'm not -entirely- against it given the manipulation he went under thanks to Frostmourne but if his actions were 100% his own that makes things complicated. --

I think the real confusion lies when Arthas kicks out Ner'zhul and his Humanity people are then left with, "Okay so who's the Lich King then if it's not Arthas or Ner'zhul?" I think the answer to me is that the Jailer took over Arthas at that point. But that's just a theory.

Personally I’ve always thought that it was still him. Yes his soul was ripped out but I don’t believe he was corrupted and controlled. I’ve always believed his actions were his own but I guess we’ll see if the Jailer had some kind of influence on him

I think that the moment he picked up Frostmourne he was lost to either Ner'zhul or the Jailer. We do have confirmation or at least a suspicion that Arthas held back the Scourge, what was left of him, from tearing apart Azeroth according to Uther.

Yeah see, Arthas always struck me as an insecure person and so what Frostmourne stole was the critical thinking that made him /human/. The rest was STILL Arthas but the part that knew his insecurites and worked to remove them at all costs.

That was the part that got him to go for the blade and pick it up in the first place.
