I still think he was purified and not killed and honestly I would love a "this is the end of WoW, let us gobatshit with the story" and have n'zoth help us purify or kil the rest of the old gods while revisiting all the raids/redoing the raids the old gods were in
I'm fully expecting them to bring back all of the Old Gods in the void expansion. And we'll finally get to see them all in their "final forms" outside of Azeroth's crust.
