I'm on the fence about this article. There are pieces I agree and disagree with here, but ultimately a thought-provoking read.

I personally can never agree with the idea of abolishing the Factions altogether. Or having races from the Alliance flood over to the Horde (and vice versa) it would be awkward and odd. The best option would to just allow players to play together but for the Factions to remain.

The faction war should definitely take a back seat, but the factions themselves don't really have any reason to be abolished. They can exist without going for each others' throats.

They would not, no. Cross faction play is what you want, not a dissolving of factions.

I would be fine with cross faction. But still much more perfer just removing both faction out right personally.

The game is built on a dual faction system. Most MMOs have some kind of factions for balancing purposes. Trust me, you don't want that.
