Say what you will about BfA's pre-event. It was messy, it was a gut-punch, etc. But the pre-event also allowed some really amazing RP events too. Really excited to see what the server comes up with on the spot for what is to come in 9.0.

BFA's prepatch was amazing story wise, there is 2 types of things for prepatch- story elements (burning of teld, broken shore, attack on the dark portals iron horde, bombing of theramore) And then there is infinite content (new warmode in darkshore, demon invasion, zombie-
TBH I really enjoyed the Burning of Teldrassil or the War of Thorns as a story note. Obviously, the whole thing itself is a travesty but as far as a development for the story its a good one.

it was super good, but once you did the scenario, there really wasent anything else to do... so it ended up being kinda shitty, you played it then went back to what you usually do, it didnt feel like a event to hype up the expac, a pre patch should be a constant thing to hype up.
