I see this get brought up a lot when it comes to Maiev. And it's in regards to her actions in Wolfheart. Sometimes the actions of characters or existence of characters is entirely ignored, retconned or changed. With Maiev it seems to be a soft-retcon of some kind. (1/5)pic.twitter.com/3lnVZsrWSG
During Legion, you rescue Maiev with the help of her brother who's been searching for her. They reunite, she questions why he came to save her after everything she tried to do him and the Night Elf society. And it's swept under by her actions at the Vault of the Wardens. (2/5)
Then in BfA Maiev acts as a sort of go-to leader for the Night Elves when Tyrande goes missing to become the Night Warrior. Even after the ritual Tyrande doesn't really show much spite towards Maiev as once again bigger things are at work. (3/5)
Ultimately, I think that the whole storyline of Maiev committing those actions is swept under the rug mainly because nobody seemed to really like it. It's clear she still did it but the cast of characters forgave her or it's just not important right now. (4/5)
As somebody who didn't like the direction, they took with Maiev in Wolfheart I'm honestly fine with the route they went with in WoW. If the characters it affected the most forgive her or don't mind her and she's not really doing those things anymore I say it's fine. (5/5)
Like I said I think it was given a soft-retcon. Book events are rarely ever talked about in-game as it is and when it's received negatively it'll most certainly be retconned in some fashion.
Honestly its the same for Jaina. Everyone just sort of forgot Dalaran' systematically butchery or imprisonment blood elves for the actions of a few mages. Or that she almost drowned Orgrimmar. Or she led Dazaralor's sacking and regicide. She just gets away with it.
I feel like we have this discussion almost every day. All of those things were warranted. Were they exactly good things? No, but should she be punished for them? I really don't think so. The Purge of Dalaran is honestly the worst thing she's ever done (1/2)
