It'd be ESPECIALLY impactful if we learn Kel'thuzad is hoarding anima to try and save him from the Maw or otherwise return him back to his status as the Lich King. The one act of goodness Arthas had left, even in the Maw, killing Kel'thuzad before fading away entirely.
The one thing that stuck with me from Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne Campaign with Arthas besides Anub'arak was the one line where Arthas called Kel'thuzad his friend. I was really taken aback by that.
I think KT actually liked him but I think Arthas saw KT much like Sylvanas sees Nathanos.
Because even in that final cutscene they have in Lordaeron, Arthas' point, after calling him a friend, is to just make sure he solidifies his grasp over the area. Nothing personal or a farewell, just, "Look after my Kingdom."
