This theory get's brought up a lot. The theory goes, "Thrall was forced to bury his two children & Aggra. This is why he tells Saurfang that his family aren't far & why he's alone." I do not think this theory has much ground at all. This could just be Thrall being careful. (1/2)

I agree. Notice Thrall's change in posture when Saurfang asks where they are. He's wary of Saurfang being an ill omen, and if he knows where Aggra and the children are, they could be put in danger too.

I always got the sense that Thrall is just in waaaaaay too deep with his own issues there and it's put his marriage on rocky ground, hence the separation. And yeah, "not far" just makes sense when being careful.

Which bit's the code for danger? Did Saurfang give it to Thrall - that'd make the most sense since he was the one who followed the assassins there.

It's a tad odd that Saurfang would ask about Thrall's family in general. That alone could've been a sign to concern Thrall and warn him something unspecified was coming or happening.
