Going, "Anduin's always been reckless" is generalizing the complaint so much that it's lost all meaning. That's not the complaint. The complaint is them writing him as suddenly some front-line battalion leading warrior after years of establishing him as not that.

I honestly just don't take an issue with the High King taking charge and going to the front lines and being active. How dull would it be if all Anduin would do is stay back in Stormwind and do nothing? He did that during most of BfA and it wasn't good.

...because he's not a warrior and never has been. And we've had more than a few examples of Blizzard reinforcing that. But because the modern writers just give no shits, they have him smashing a tank with a sword in bfa and charging into battle on the front lines as a priest.

They've made him into a Warrior-Priest hybrid since the start of Battle for Azeroth. He now wields Shalamayne, he now wears plate. They've been gradual with it since Legion this is a development not a: "Anduin is suddenly a druid."

Where was the gradual? It was "Cataclysm/MoP/WoD/Legion strict priest, bad at sword fighting" and then BfA was, "NAW DUDES IMA FIGHT A TANK!" It wasn't gradual at all rofl Where did they ever say he was a "Warrior-Priest hybrid" either? You're just excusing shoddy writing again

They said he was a Warrior-Priest hybrid I believe at their first Blizzcon for BfA when somebody asked if Anduin was a paladin and they said he wasn't. They were setting him up with using the sword and having him fight with it since the end of Legion.

What did they do in legion to set up him fighting with the sword? Having a light show up in sword in the cutscene? That's a huge stretch.

End of Legion he gets the sword of his father. Elegy-Novellas has him start training with a sword. Battle for Azeroth showcases him trying to fight with his father's sword but he's not the best at it. He's slowly being set up to fight with a sword really since BfA but still.

How can you say 'slowly being set up' when using the literal most recent expansion when he's existed for 4 other expansions NOT doing that. And even before that in the WotLK comics. That isn't slowing being set up. That's taking a right turn with a character suddenly.

It's not just about his fighting style or the sword though. He's been reckless since Mists of Pandaria that's what I am trying to really get at here. Let's throw away the sword and his plate armor for a minute here--

Even without those, Anduin has had that tendency to run off and do things despite being told not to since Mists. This is shown again with him going to the Broken Shore and then freeing Saurfang secretly in BfA. So he's already got the tendency to do things risk fully.
