They've been writing Anduin to doing reckless things since Mists of Pandaria. It's nothing new. And they usually reward Anduin's reckless behaviour with him getting broken legs or nearly dying to Sylvanas' shenanigans.

Going, "Anduin's always been reckless" is generalizing the complaint so much that it's lost all meaning. That's not the complaint. The complaint is them writing him as suddenly some front-line battalion leading warrior after years of establishing him as not that.

I honestly just don't take an issue with the High King taking charge and going to the front lines and being active. How dull would it be if all Anduin would do is stay back in Stormwind and do nothing? He did that during most of BfA and it wasn't good.

...because he's not a warrior and never has been. And we've had more than a few examples of Blizzard reinforcing that. But because the modern writers just give no shits, they have him smashing a tank with a sword in bfa and charging into battle on the front lines as a priest.

Also to classify Anduin as doing nothing in BfA is just...false? As in like flatout incorrect. He's either actively involved or directing the characters to do stuff in every patch. Just because you're not fighting on the front lines doesn't mean you're not doing anything.

Saying nothing was harsh but they were propping him up as a main character in BfA and having him sit on his throne and report things just did not mesh well with me. At least at the end he was there to help confront Sylvanas at the start and at the end but that was really it.

This was a similar argument I had for Thrall back in Classic to TBC he didn't really do anything in the story and just stood around in his throne room giving orders. Wrath came up and started to have him do more than that with the Battle for Undercity and so on.

I don't think there was a single time Anduin "sat on his throne reporting things." He's at Kul Tiras when Jaina is appointed new Lord Admiral He releases Saurfang He goes back to Boralus again post Dazar'alor He goes to Dustwallow and then Durotar with Saurfang.
