Yeah but like There should be no conceivable way Malfurion lost that battle...
I think it would've been smart to foreshadow the Jailer at the start of BfA. Explaining that some unseen force was behind helping Sylvanas all the way back to fighting Malfurion really would've helped set the stage. Or just have Malfurion face Sylvanas and Varok at once.

I’m just still acutely upset about Varok getting the backstab on Malfurion I’m petty and can’t let things go easily.

Varok instantly regretted that decision at least. It wasn't one of those, "Haha! I got him now I'm gonna walk away and think he died from it!" I much prefer Saurfang being the one who says enough is enough I'm not gonna finish it.
