Here's the video by the way that I made regarding this. It still holds up pretty well even a year later.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0WANuEU3Nw …

Not to mention Thrall used the elements the first time around, but I don't recall people screaming "Chearter!" then. Plus the comic Bloodsworn has a shaman and a paladin go at eachother. Gran ted they both used magic, but the fact they used it at all shows it is not forbidden.
-
Exactly. There are so many outside sources and media mainly in the comics and books that explain what the Mak'gora is all about multiple times. Yet people see one movie that isn't even canon and it changes their minds.

The elements left him because he himself thought he failed. It's like when you loose faith in the Light, you loose it's power, same with the elements

Sounds fair. My take is Garrosh was either so confident he could beat Thrall even with his elemental powers, or he wrongly assumed this Draenor was so alien to him his powers wouldn't work of be severely hindered.

If anything, this wasn't officially a Mak'Gora. It was just two dudes beating the shit out of each other on a hill that ended in a zapfest.

i was also thinking that.

although i agree isn’t it implied with Mak’gora that they can’t use anything other than their weapon of choice?
-
Nothing outright states that. The only rule I recall is you can't pick up your weapon if you drop it which both followed this rule up until the end when Garrosh was defeated. If Garrosh said, "One weapon only - magic included." then Thrall wouldn't be able to use it.

If memory serves me right, both fighters need to call upon a witness, and state beforehand what weapon they wish to use, with nothing forbidding magic. Thus, Garrosh 'cheated', just as much as Thrall, by not respecting these things rules.
-
Imo, the entire basis of their duel was botched to begin with, through the fault of both. So the fixation people have on Thrall's use of the element, whilst ignoring garrosh's own mistakes, is simply dumb
