I definitely subscribe to the idea that the Cloud Serpents can do that. I also like to think that Bronze Dragons can change the shape of their age if they want to - depending on the time they're visiting much like Chromie.pic.twitter.com/vflax4M7hE

Back during Pandaria Ban'orak had his Cloud Serpent reside in the skull of the yaungol warlord he had slain. It was good for quick get-away's and surprise attacks. He visits the Cloud Serpent every now and then back in Pandaria.
