I'll admit part of the reason why I don't really like her anymore was the entirety of BfA's portrayal of her. Despite this I still really liked the expansion but when it comes to her just not really. Which is odd because I ended up liking Garrosh more when he became the villain.
I wasn't buying her as a good guy from the beginning. It felt like she was just making excuses to do wtf she wanted.
I think a good guy would be overselling it. But Anti-Hero? Maybe. Sylvanas for what she is worth works perfectly as a villain but I think the issue stemmed from them not knowing what they wanted to do with her. I think they handled Garrosh's transition into villainhood well.

i had an idea for a different time line where the jailer gave Sylvanas the Valkyr in exchange for her service to him and the more valkyr she lost the more the jailer took control of her and made her do bad stuff and when she loses all of her valkyr he takes over her body-
Jailer just wanted to have a sexy body. Relatable.
This is how I felt; I thought Sylvanas would be this leader that we saw in the cinamatic. They even hinted the tree may have been after Lorderon. Maybe Alliance instigated the 4th war. Maybe Sylv did her best to keep the Horde together and united.
But no, the Ranger General was just a 2D mustache twirling villian for all of BfA. And intended for everyone to dislike what she was doing.
