The Legion trailer (where she rescues Varian) and the Broken Shore scenario made the Sylvanas they actually gave us feel like such a bait & switch. I was crushed by Vol'jin's death, but looking forward to Sylvie stepping up and instead we got...what we got. /cry

Vol'jin got worst of it than Sylvanas ever did. At least with Sylvanas, you could expect her to do most of the things she did and got to be Warchief for two expansions. Vol'jin didn't get to do diddly.

Blizz absolutely cheated Vol'jin by killing him right after he was Warchief Not Appearing in This Expac all through WoD, but I also think they cheated Sylvanas out of what appeared to be genuine character development in favor of "LOL EVIL".

If they were gonna do it with any character it makes sense they did it with Sylvanas. I -used to- like her character but not really anymore. I'm tired of her at this point and mainly want her gone after Shadowlands.

Oh, at this point I want her gone, too, because IMO the character can't be redeemed. But honestly I don't think any character should have gotten this treatment. If they needed a patsy to lead us into Shadowlands they should have introduced a new character for it.

With Sylvanas she's always been a bit of a evil character. So her becoming the baddie of both BfA and Shadowlands was a very easy pill to swallow for me. Legion was the only time they tried to make her appear good and it didn't last very long.

While I agree with you that we Vol'jin fans got screwed, I still don't think the way they handled Sylvanas was good or particularly in character. If she's going to be evil, I have a much higher bar for her evil than "Muahaha, I'll start a war for no reason! /twirls mustache"

They gave her a reason it was just very late in the game (aka BfA). Sylvanas' goal for a while now has been to be immortal and evade death as much as possible. And to do so she needed to send many souls down to the Maw to empower herself.
