I'm actually more surprised by the fact that they went through with making Sylvanas an antagonist. I was fully expecting them to turn around and say Saurfang was wrong. But no they went through with making Sylvanas the antagonist and they should honestly stick with that.

The main thing about the Forsaken was she was grooming them to feel and see like her and she failed to succeed at that when they stuck with the Horde and not her. So she no longer cares about something that's turned against her or isn't useful.
Things would likely play out VERY differently if the Forsaken didn't give her the cold shoulder when she said the Horde was nothing. That's where everything falls into place here. Forsaken chose the Horde over her and that made her lose her last thing she cared for really.
